Floating Nightstands

My current project entails two floating nightstands made from Walnut. Here are some specs:

• Walnut for the case top and sides and for the drawer front
• Maple for the case back and drawer sides, back and bottom.
• Stands will attach to wall with two keyhole slots on the back
• Pencil roll detail milled into the side tops
• Biscuits used to attach case sides and top and back
• Dovetail joinery on the drawer front
• Drawer runs on 1/2" runners

Process for making the pencil roll on the sides below. Starts with a cove bit on the router, moves to simple chisel work.

Hallway Bench

 Here are some pictures from my most recently completed project: a hallway bench with lid and storage inside for boots and shoes.

•  Oak frame, with walnut panels.
•  Joinery includes through grooves on rails and tenons on stiles. Frames are rabbeted and then chamfered to give a nice shadow line along the panel/frame joint.
•  Lid is rounded over along front and sides.
• Corners are spline mitered with a Walnut spline for a nice contrast.
• Finishing was accomplished in 2 stages and included 1 coat of General Finishes Seal-a-Cell, and 3 coats of GF Urethane Topcoat.
• First stage - finish all the panels and inside edges of frames before assembly
• Second stage -  After glue-up of panels complete finishing the frames

Hallway Table with Drawer

 This table features a slim depth for use against a wall in a hallway, a small drawer for keys/wallets/mail, etc and a lower display shelf for a vase or collectible. It is made from mahogany, with a curly maple drawer front wrapped in ebony and a curly maple lower shelf. Mortise and tenon joinery hold all the aprons and lower rails to the legs, while the tabletop is attached using removable shop made wooden brackets.
